[Trailer] – Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted

20 Mar

The Madagascar film series hasn’t been amazing or anything, but through two films (plus a television special and a TV show) it’s been a decent enough animated flick franchise full of cute and harmless amusing moments that can be enjoyed by everyone; not to mention that I actually thought the second one (Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa) was an improvement over the original. By which I mean, I’m actually not against having Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett Smith return to voice their respective animals trying to get back to the Central Park Zoo for a third film, a new trailer for which you can watch above.

Watching the trailer it doesn’t look as though this one will be far better than the other two, but I’m fine with it just being an okay summer flick for people of all ages, and the fact that Noah Baumbach has stepped in to write this one actually gives me hope that this too will be better than the previous installment. This time around their journey back to New York takes Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo to Europe, obviously with the Penguins, King Julien and Maurice also tagging along. The eventually wind up in Monte Carlo, where they stumble onto a traveling circus led by a Siberian tiger that they help revitalize as they try to escape Europe and the animal control unit led by Captain Chantel DuBois.

Appropriately, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted will open at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and then get a stateside release on June 8. Directed by Eric Darnell, Tom McGrath and Conrad Vernon; written by Mr. Baumbach; and featuring the voices of Mr. Stiller, Mr. Rock, Mr. Schwimmer, Ms. Smith as well as those of Frances McDormand, Sacha Baron Cohen, Cedric the Entertainer, Andy Richter, Bryan Cranston, Jessica Chastain and Martin Short.
