[Trailer] – Hotel Transylvania

28 Mar

Adam Sandler has the need to be in at least one film every year, if not two (or three). So even though he has his requisitory summer comedy already lined up for 2012, thanks to his collaboration with Andy Samberg in That’s My Boy, he’s also headlining the voice cast for the animated film Hotel Transylvania (Mr. Samberg is also in it, actually), and you can watch the trailer for it above.

The story centers on Dracula, voiced by Mr. Sandler, trying his best to throw a party for his daughter’s 118th birthday while he runs the titular hotel, a secluded castle where he and his fellow monsters can go for a rest and not be bothered by humans. But then a regular human backpacker turns up, developing a crush on Dracula’s daughter and threatening to put a dent on the monster friends happy place.

I have to say this actually look like it could be a fun little movie, all depending on whether Mr. Sandler’s voice as Dracula doesn’t go too overboard and get tiring fast. From what little the trailer offers us it looks like we’ll get some really nice visual style, and considering this is going to be directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, who’s the creator of such great animated shows like Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack and Star Wars: Clone Wars, I’m cautiously optimistic about this turning out nicely.

Directed by Mr. Tartakovsky; written by Dan Hageman, Kevin Hageman and David I. Stern; and featuring the voices of Mr. Sandler, Mr. Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, David Koechner, Cee Lo Green, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon and David Spade. Hotel Transylvania opens September 28.
