[Trailer] – People Like Us

31 Mar

I’ve been following this film for quite some time, for some reason or another, back when it was titled Welcome To People, and now that it’s titled People Like Us, we’ve finally gotten our first look at it thanks to the just released trailer which you can watch above.

The film is about a man who inherits $150’000 when his father dies, but finds out he must deliver some of it to a sister he never knew he had. It could mean we get a sappy sort of thing, but this trailer makes me think this will be more like a really solid character piece. And I’m quite excited to see how this one turns out.

The kicker is that this one is directed and co-written by a guy who usually has explosions in his films which are usually genre fare or based on licensed property. Alex Kurtzman is the man behind the lens here, the guy who’s penned such geek-friendly projects like Star Trek, the first Transformers and worked on TV shows like Alias and Fringe. He co-wrote the screenplay for this one with his usual partner Roberto Orci as well as with Jody Lambert, and stepped behind the camera for his directing debut, which couldn’t be farther away from the stuff he usually does.

Directed by Mr. Kurtzman; written by Mr. Kurtzman, Mr. Orci and Mr. Lambert; starring Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Wilde, Michelle Pfeiffer, Mark Duplass and Jon Favreau. People Like Us opens June 29.
