[Trailer] – Katy Perry: Part Of Me

4 Apr

Katy Perry is a bonafide worldwide popstar by now, we all know this. She was the first artist since Michael Jackson to have five singles from the same album to top the Billboard 200 chart. She’s the only artist ever to spend 52 consecutive weeks (a whole year!) in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 (that record stands at 69 weeks by now, courtesy of Ms. Perry). So of course it was only a matter of time before she got her own concert-documentary.

In Katy Perry: Part Of Me, for which you can watch the trailer above, we get to watch the approach that this one’s taking; combining footge from her latest California Dreams Tour with more personal footage that focus on her personal life, detailing her work ethic, her background in Christian pop, and her family life, including her recent divorce from Russell Brand. And you can watch it all in 3D.

This obviously doesn’t look like a materpiece at work, but at least Ms. Perry’s work with the technicolor fever and the fireworks and candy-colored fantasies lends itself to the format (who doesn’t want to see whipped cream being shot from her boobs into the crowd in three dimensions?). So I’m holding hope for it to be better than similar efforts like last year’s Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (which I gave a C to) or Glee: The 3D Concert Movie (to which I handed a C+).

Directed by Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz. And starring Katy Perry, obviously. Katy Perry: Part Of Me opens July 5 (get it? July 4th weekend! So you can ooownn the niiiight).
