[Trailer] – Virginia

19 Apr

In 2010, off an Oscar for his screenplay for Milk, Dustin Lance Black was riding a great wave of buzz and arrived at that year’s TIFF with his directorial debut, a film named What’s Wrong With Virginia.  Well, apparently a whole lot was wrong with it, as the film got horrible reviews. Mr. Black went back to the editing room, reworked it around, and now it’s finally seeing the light of day, now simply titled Virginia, and you watch the trailer for it after the cut.

The film focuses on a single mother who had been in an affair with the town’s Mormon Sheriff for decades but then that comes to an end as he decides to run for office; only to then have the woman’s son start dating the Sheriff’s daughter. Personally, I’m not entirely sold on the film, there look to be a lot of ideas and tone shifts and it still looks a bit messy, though hopefully better than the version that got murdered before.

Written and directed by Dustin Lance Black; starring Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris, Emma Roberts, Harrison Gilbertson, Toby Jones, Carrie Preston, Amy Madigan and Yeardley Smith. Virginia opens May 18th.
