[Trailer] – Brave

24 Apr

Pixar is back as always this summer with Brave, their first film with a female protagonist, and the latest (probably last) trailer for it has been released, and you can watch it after the cut.

The marketing for this year’s Pixar film has been a bit ambiguous. I mean, visually the film looks amazing from the clips and trailers we’ve gotten, and the posters are just absolutely ace. But the promotional material has had some trouble showing us the tone of the movie; some making it seem comedic, like this was the funny adventures of a princess, and some make it seem more dramatic and epic and magical. Don’t get me wrong, the two tones are really working for me and I’m still pretty high on Brave, I just don’t see how exactly it is they mesh.

Of course the fact that we don’t know that probably comes from the fact that we don’t really know all that much about the actual plot, either. Which is good because I like the keeping of plots under wraps to amaze us once the film arrives. Plus it’s Pixar, so the film will most likely amaze us, and they probably really want to make people forget about the misfire (by their standards) that was last year’s Cars 2, and Brave seems the one to do it with, what with the great voice cast, the sweeping visuals, the humor and the emotional strength we have come to love and expect from this company.

Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman; written by Brenda Chapman and Irene Mecchi; featuring the voices of Kelly Macdonald, Julie Walters, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson, Robbie Coltrane and John Ratzenberger. Brave opens June 22.
