[Trailer] – This Is 40

27 Apr

Judd Apatow is back in the director’s chair this year for the first time since 2009’s Funny People (which was a bit of a flop, though I personally liked it). But anyway’s, the film he has lined up for this year, This Is 40, is a “sort-of” sequel to his great Knocked Up, and the first trailer for it has just been released, and you can watch it after the cut.

The film follows the lives of the characters played by Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann in Knocked Up, Pete and Debbie, and how they deal with getting to be forty and having kids and the prospect of getting old and trying to do a lot of stuff better while they still can.

The trailer has really gotten me psyched for this one. Paul Rudd I’ve long said is new comedy royalty and may just have the single best comic timing of any actor out there right now, and his chemistry with Ms. Mann, who’s awesome on her own rights, is tremendous. The supporting cast is full of terrifically talented people, and this just looks like Judd Apatow back in his wheelhouse, delivering some really funny stuff while also giving us a truly honest look at mid-life in a film that will surely have a lot of heart. December can’t come soon enough.

Written and directed by Judd Apatow; starring Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, Jason Segel, Melissa McCarthy, Megan Fox, Albert Brooks, John Lithgow, Ryan Lee, Charlyne Yi, Lena Dunham and Chris O’Dowd. This Is 40 opens December 21.
