[Trailer] – The Great Gatsby

22 May

When Baz Luhrmann was announced to adapt The Great Gatsby, one of the greatest novels of all-time, you kind of knew what to expect. This is a guy who likes over the top and stylized visuals, and the material here was perfect for that kind of approach. Now, however, you can take an actual look at how it’s all shaping up, with the first trailer just released for the movie available for your viewing after the cut.

The film, in case you hadn’t heard, will be in 3D. Which is something I’m still unsure of, but the trailer here makes it evident how that added dimension will play out with the visuals, which look super hyperbolic and like something only Mr. Luhrmann could pull off. And then there’s the cast, Leonardo DiCaprio seems absolutely perfect, and Carey Mulligan seems as terrific as always, Tobey Maguire, however, I’m not that sold on. But yeah, I wanted to watch this film since it was first announced because of the source material and the cast, and even if this trailer hasn’t totally hooked me (mostly because of the weird song choice), it has certainly piqued my interest.

Directed by Baz Luhrmann; written by Baz Luhrmann and Craig Pearce, based on the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald; starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Amitabh Bachchan, Elizabeth Debicki and Jason Clake. The Great Gatsby opens December 25.
