[Trailer] – The Bourne Legacy

31 May

Jeremy Renner is about to have three action franchises under his belt. He was in last year’s incredible Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, starred in this year’s massive The Avengers (which, to date, is the only A+ I’ve given in 2012), and now he’ll be the lead in The Bourne Legacy, taking over duties from Matt Damon. And you can watch the new trailer for that film after the cut.

Now, he’s not taking over in the sense that he’s playing the same role, nor is The Bourne Legacy a reboot, as this trailer actually does a lot to link this story directly to the actions of Jason Bourne from the previous three films. With a new task force, led by Edward Norton‘s character, in charge of killing off all of their genetically-enhanced agents to avoid another Bourne situation, but with the one Mr. Renner plays actually escaping and starting the whole thing off again.

I’m a big, big fan of the first films. So I was kind of iffy about the prospect of a new one, especially considering that neither Mr. Damon nor director Paul Greengrass, who did the last two, were coming back. But the new additions to the cast are genius, and writer-director Tony Gilroy was the guy who wrote the previous films, so he knows the story, and his directing work on Michael Clayton and Duplicity shows he can also direct superbly. So yeah, I’m really, really excited about this one.

Directed by Tony Gilroy; written by Tony Gilroy and Dan Gilroy; starring Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Joan Allen, Albert Finney, David Strathairn, Scott Glenn, Stacy Keach, Oscar Isaac, David Asmar and Corey Stoll. The Bourne Legacy opens August 3.
