[Trailer] – Seven Psychopaths

14 Aug

If I had to make a list of the ten movies left this year that I’m most highly anticipating, Seven Psychopaths would surely rank among them. Thankfully it’s only a couple of months until we get to see it, and it’s just gotten a trailer which you can watch after the cut.

The reason as to why I’m so excited about this one is that it comes from the mind of Martin McDonagh, a guy who’s not only one of the most important playwrights living today, but also the guy who in 2008 gave us In Bruges, which was one of the very best films of that year, and probably the funniest one I’ve seen ever since.

What was so great about In Bruges was that it had a career-best performance from Colin Farrell, and he’s got the lead in this one, too. Not only that, but the rest of the cast is absolutely stellar as well, and includes name like those of Christopher Walken and Sam Rockwell, who have starred in Mr. McDonagh’s plays on Broadway, so they know how to handle this material perfectly.

As you might imagine, this one’s another black comedy. Mr. Farrell is this strugglling writer who’s in dire need of some inspiration, and then you have his best friend who wants to help him and is a dog kidnapper with a partner that’s super religious. And then they steal the puppy of a gangster. This is the kind of stuff Mr. McDonagh gets sheer greatness out of. I truly cannot wait.

Written and directed by Martin McDonagh; starring Colin Farrell, Woody Harrelson, Abbie Cornish, Sam Rockwell, Christopher Walker, Olga Kurylenko, Tom Waits and Gabourey Sidibe. Seven Psychopaths opens October 12.
