Oblivion

Tom Cruise, after the brilliant Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, seems to be on the lookout for a comeback. Sure, Rock of Ages wasn’t a worthy next step, but he’s lining up projects for him to headline and become a big action star once again. Jack Reacher will the first step towards cementing that status, but there’s also Oblivion, for which a trailer hast just been released which you can watch below.

This new film of his is one of the two sci-fi tentpoles he has lined up and sees him as this lonely drone repair guy working on what’s left of Earth after an alien invasion. he’s there extract vital resourced until he rescues this female stranger from a downed spacecraft and everything takes a 180.

I wasn’t expecting much from the trailer, thinking it would be a generic kind of thing, but the first half of the trailer really got me interested even if the latter one felt more like what you’d expect. But, yeah, the cast, the people who got a hand in the script and the fact that M83 are doing the score has me signed up to at least give this one a shot.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski; written by Joseph Kosinski, William Monahan, Karl Gajdusek and Michael Arndt, based on the graphic novel by Joseph Kosinski and Arvid Nelson; starring Tom Cruise, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Morgan Freeman, Melissa Leo, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Zoë Bell. Oblivion is out April 12, 2013.
