To be completely honest, I was so sure this was going to suck so much more than it actually did, and,\ for an SNL spin-off film this one’s really okay, don’t get me wrong, it’s still bad, I’m just saying it’s better than was expected, and I’m attributing that solely to the fact that Kristen Wiig is in this one. But then again, let’s be honest, you can’t really have been expecting this one to be good when you analyze what this film was spun from, the SNL MacGruber sketch is what, 40 seconds long? And by the end of those 40 seconds the main characters blows up, and, more importantly, many times the sketches can’t be funny for more than ten of those forty seconds.

I’m not gonna go on for long about this film, it’s not worth it really, it’s not as though the plot is that important, plus if you have seen the sketches, which are parodies of the MacGyver character from the 80’s, you know kind of how it goes, I’m just gonna say that while it’s not recommendable it’s definitely not unbearable, it borders on it, but it’s not, the direction is rather okay and, as I said, it has Kristen Wiig and if you, like me, watch SNL every weekend then you’ll know that this is a hilarious woman who seems to have a superpower, she can make every not-funny thing at least a bit funny, and hilarious often, she’s one of the funniest women in American nowadays, and Will Forte is lucky to have her in this one, as he is lucky to have Ryan Phillippe, who’s also okay in this one, the weakest link is Val Kilmer though, I thought he was completely off in this film, and horribly unfunny as well.

But all in all this one is one of the best SNL spin-offs, especially when comparted to that last three or four, yes, it’s still a bad film, but Will Forte is one of the best actors in SNL and Ms. Wiig is by far the best one, so at least they can, though barely, hold this film together for ninety minutes, even though the sketch it’s based from isn’t even a minute long.
